The Wine

Country of origin:

France

Region:

Rhône - Gigondas

Nestled beneath the dramatic limestone peaks of the Dentelles de Montmirail, Gigondas is one of the Rhône's great Grenache strongholds and this cuvée showcases the intensity and structure of this iconic appellation. Concentrated notes of blackberry, black olive and garrigue are framed by firm tannins and a powerful, lingering finish. A wine of both strength and refinement blending 80% Grenache with 10% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre.

The Winemaker

Guillaume Gonnet
Winemaker:

Guillaume Gonnet

Winemaker Guillaume Gonnet brings an adventurous spirit to everything he does. After honing his craft in Australia and New Zealand, while indulging his passion for surfing, he returned to the Rhône full of fresh ideas. A champion of minimal-intervention winemaking, Guillaume lets each vineyard speak for itself, crafting expressive Grenache-led wines that reflect the remarkable diversity of the Rhône's soils.

"Gigondas can often lean towards power, but Le Gardien keeps everything beautifully balanced. The Grenache brings generous fruit, while Syrah and Mourvèdre add savoury complexity and structure. Rich without ever getting too heavy, this is a wonderfully complete southern Rhône red." - Dave Roberts, Wine Buyer.
