The Wine

Country of origin:

Australia

Region:

McLaren Vale

The wine opens with plenty of dark fruit, blackcurrant and black cherry specifically. Search a little deeper and there’s sweet and savoury spice on offer and a little dark chocolate. The palate is immediately impactful, a full mouthful of dark fruit, but after the initial build it settles and mellows thanks to some lovely oak ageing and further time in bottle. The finish is juicy but tightly structured with fine integrated tannins. Drinking exceptionally well right away or stash a few as it’ll develop more savouriness over the months ahead.

Sometimes we can't tell you who the actual winemaker is. The usual reason for this is that they make expensive wine under their own name and they don't want the world to know they're also supplying their wine much cheaper under a different label. Why do they do this? Either they need an injection of cashflow or they've produced too much and don't want to swamp the market and cheapen their brand (or maybe we've just been able to sweet-talk them into doing us a favour).

"This was a cracking vintage in McLaren Vale. A long, cool ripening period and no heatwaves meant that they had plenty of opportunity to ripen the Shiraz perfectly. This wine captures the conditions perfectly, showcasing ripe, plush fruit, silkiness and a little crunchy freshness." - Dave Roberts, Wine Buyer.
