The Wine

Country of origin:

Chile

Region:

Maule Valley

This Gran Reserva Carignan comes from Chile's Maule Valley, the country's oldest wine-growing region with nearly five centuries of tradition. Made from 80-year-old, dry-farmed vines and aged for 12 months in old oak, it shows a deep, intense red colour. Aromas of ripe strawberry, sour cherry, toasted oak and coconut lead into a full-bodied, robust palate with firm structure, vibrant acidity and a rustic edge. Concentrated fruit, well-integrated oak and silky tannins carry through to a long, powerful finish with subtle vanilla and savoury depth.

Set in a spectacular spot between Santiago and Valparaíso, Viña Indómita sits at the heart of the cool coastal Casablanca Valley. Behind the views is a dynamic, forward-thinking winemaking team and one of Chile’s most exciting modern projects. Sustainability and social responsibility are central here, from reducing water and energy use to supporting local employment in both winemaking and wine tourism. Since 2017, winemaker Diego Covarrubias Zabala has led the estate’s work across the Casablanca, Maipo and Bio Bio Valleys, bringing a meticulous, detail-driven approach to wines that capture freshness, balance and a strong sense of place.

"Beautifully bright yet deeply coloured, this wine opens with aromas of wild fruits, from maqui to sour cherry. The texture is rustic but polished, carried by a vibrant natural acidity and juicy, expressive fruit. The palate is long and generous, layered with subtle vanilla notes, and it finishes with a character that is sure to pleasantly surprise." - Diego Covarrubias Zabala, Winemaker.

David

Really enjoyed this Discovery Wine from Chile. Lives up to expectations from the buyer's notes, thanks Dave!, very full bodied with lovely notes of fruit. So good with our roast lamb, but it would equally go well with cheese. Looking forward to the next bottle this weekend!
