Nero d'Avola lends itself perfectly to winemaker Fabrizio's approach here. The appassimento method, a winemaking technique using passito (dried) grapes, has been a revelation for us in recent years. Fabrizio's Nero d'Avola grown on his coastal vineyards has a natural freshness that you just wouldn't want to hide with too much overly rich passito wine, but a careful blend of the two creates something unique but balanced. Fresh bramble fruit with a touch of liquorice, raisin and sweet spice. Complex yet incredibly drinkable.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Fabrizio Vella
Fabrizio Vella is a typical Sicilian guy who grew up in the middle of vineyards. He attended the University of Palermo and in 2003 he gained a degree in Oenology. He went to Australia for a year to complete his education as a winemaker before starting work in the Normanno winery where he leads a young and passionate team.
"The parcel of passito wine gives this Nero d'Avola extra layers but not too much sweet fruit and richness which I prefer as our regular Nero d'Avola is really expressive which I love!" - Fabrizio Vella, Winemaker.
