The Wine

Country of origin:

France

Region:

Loire - Saumur

Nestled in the rolling limestone slopes of Souzay-Champigny, Clos des Cordeliers is a lovely little family-run domaine with deep roots in Cabernet Franc and, more recently, a bold new chapter in crafting white wine. The 2023 vintage marks their first expression of Saumur Chenin Blanc. Produced from a small, 3 hectare plot of vines, this is a lively, lemon fruit-filled wine, with classic mineral freshness and a long balanced finish.

The Winemaker

Marie-Francoise Ratron-Galet
Winemaker:

Marie-Françoise Ratron-Galet

Since 1932, the Ratron family has managed Le Clos des Cordeliers, a 13-hectare, walled vineyard in the historic village of Champigny. Today, fourth-generation winemaker Marie-Françoise Ratron-Galet manages the estate with the support of her team, focusing on Cabernet Franc. In 2021, she planted 3.5 hectares of Chenin, the Loire Valley's other iconic grape, marking a significant new chapter in the domaine's history.

"Crisp and structured, this wine delivers bright green apple and citrus zest supported by a backbone of chalky minerality. There's a lingering finish of refreshing acidity and subtle salinity that points to the river-stone terroir of Saumur." - Marie-Francoise Ratron-Galet, Winemaker.
