The Wine

Country of origin:

Australia

Region:

Victoria - Mornington Peninsula

Kooyong is a multi-award-winning estate based in the Mornington Peninsula region of Victoria, Australia where they craft a range of top-class wines, focusing on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The approach both in the vineyards and the winery is minimalist, with the combination of low-input agriculture and low-intervention winemaking producing wines of real character and purity. This is a small-batch Pinot Noir that is drinking superbly well right now, but you can stash a few bottles away and it'll develop more earthy undertones. Ripe and fresh with a long, silky finish with perfectly balanced grape and oak tannins.

The Winemaker

Kooyong's story began in the late 1990s, but its modern chapter started in 2004 when the Gjergja family took ownership. From there, the winery's reputation flourished, reaching a milestone in 2012 when it was awarded James Halliday's prestigious title of 'Winery of the Year'. Situated in the Mornington Peninsula, renowned for producing world-class, cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Kooyong naturally draws some inspiration from Burgundy. However, its wines remain unmistakably regional, defined by a signature freshness, refined elegance and harmonious balance.

"Aromatic and fresh with spiced strawberry, red cherry and baking spice aromas. The tannins are fine-grained yet firm, giving good structure to the glossy-textured wine. Raspberry, dried herbs and game notes give this wine a moreish quality." - Tim Perrin, Winemaker.
