The Wine

Country of origin:

Australia

Region:

McLaren Vale

Tucked away in the rolling hills of McLaren Vale, Blewitt Springs is like the cool, laid-back cousin of Australia’s wine regions, quietly producing some of the country’s most impressive Shiraz without making a big fuss about it. More than one person makes $100 bottles of wine from this vineyard site. Light touch in the winery and barrel shed, aiming for a vibrant, bright style of shiraz, and we think we’ve managed that. A really nice wine, right in its drinking window.

The Winemaker

Steve Grimley
Winemaker:

Steve Grimley

Steve Grimley heads up the winemaking team at his small winery on Chalk Hill in the McLaren Vale. 25 years of working with him has added countless classics to our range. We have no intention of settling for all the wins we've had, we're going to continue to push the boundaries and bring you truly exceptional wines that always carry his signature drinkability.

"This opens with aromas of blackberry, and a hint of Turkish delight, layered with subtle spice and earthy undertones that move onto a plush palate that is refined, with silky tannins carrying waves of ripe red and black fruits balanced by a fresh, mineral edge. The long finish lingers, with hints of milk chocolate and white pepper." - 5OS Winemaking Team, Winemakers.

On opening the bottle I thought this was Pinot Noir. On the nose good rotting veg! It clears but leave it before tasting. Not Shiraz as I know it and I will stick to Steve Grimley products, only one bottle to go. I've had much better at this price. Could name them but definitely competitors to Virgin.
