The Wine

Country of origin:

Australia

Region:

Adelaide Hills

Often overshadowed by the global reputation of Penfolds' iconic red wines, their Chardonnay is a hidden treasure in the collection. Drawing on grapes from some of Australia's most celebrated cool-climate regions, Tasmania, Tumbarumba and the Adelaide Hills, it has remarkable depth and character. Juicy nectarine, pink grapefruit and lush tropical fruit, all seamlessly combine with delicate baking spice and a subtle nuttiness. The finish has a fine chalky texture that keeps everything in check. A classic Aussie Chardonnay that is a cut above the rest.

The Winemaker

Henry Slattery
Winemaker:

Henry Slattery

Since its founding in 1844, Penfolds' success has been shaped by generations of visionaries and innovators. The seamless blend of science, artistry and creativity has propelled Penfolds to become one of Australia's most celebrated and respected producers.

"Bin 311 Chardonnay truly reflects the winemakers' mantra of going where the fruit grows best and where it best suits style. In true Bin 311 style, not unlike our Yattarna, the 2023 vintage exhibits lemon and lime aromas and a mineral acid backbone, complemented by barrel fermentation and maturation in new and seasoned oak." - Henry Slattery, Winemaker.

John

Delicious. A real classic, crisp Chardonnay but still with plenty of body and fruit. Nice addition Virgin!

Simon

Very disappointing. No bouquet and tasted like cold. water. Annoyed to have paid £5 if I had paid £37 I would probably still be crying.
