The Wine

Country of origin:

France

Region:

Burgundy - Beaujolais

Among the ten Crus of Beaujolais, Fleurie stands out as the most lifted in floral aromatics and is always refined. Located in the northern part of the region, Fleurie's vineyards climb the pink granite slopes of the Beaujolais hills, yielding wines that have elegance, supple tannins and graceful balance. La Trame Fleurie celebrates the vine's essential role in crafting exceptional wines, with aromas of rose petal and fresh strawberries, a bright and vibrant red fruit-filled palate and a balanced silky finish.

The Winemaker

Our strong winemaking philosophy developed to achieve our aim of making quality wines, which are representative of the region and variety at every price point. Minimal intervention in the winery, use of indigenous yeasts where possible, maximum aeration of the reds and judicious use of oak to enhance the wines where necessary are key to our success in making very drinkable and food friendly wines.

"Aromas of violets, rose petals and ripe red berries lead into a silky palate of cherry, raspberry and subtle spice. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and a fresh, mineral finish - a classic Beaujolais that is a true expression of the Fleurie Cru." - Samantha Bailey, Winemaker.

Fleurie can be a wine of debate, personally I love it as a sunny lunch wine, or an easy lazy afternoon wine. This was decanted and left for about a 90 mins before pour. I expect light sweet fruit and some floral essence with a fleurie, this had some but I actually didn't find the wine to be light and airy like I'd expect, so the wafts of the beaujolais countryside became a little masked by a slightly heavier darker intrusion. I would chalk this up as "ok" but I wouldn't rush back for it.
