The Wine

Country of origin:

England

Region:

Sussex

This exclusive collaboration between London Cru and Virgin Wines showcases a small parcel of grapes from their Sussex vines. Crafted from Pinot Noir Précoce, an early ripening clone of Pinot Noir, a variety perfectly suited to England's cool climate, this vibrant, light-bodied red bursts with enticing aromas of fresh raspberry, British strawberry, and juicy red cherry, underscored by a subtle hint of flint. Deliciously refreshing and easy-drinking, it pairs beautifully with soft cheeses and charcuterie. And for the very best experience, we recommend serving it lightly chilled.

The Winemaker

Alex Hurley
Winemaker:

Alex Hurley

London Cru opened in 2013 when Cliff Roberson thought it would be a great idea to build London’s first urban winery. A wine-trade face of 50 years, Cliff was no stranger to the urban wineries of America and saw no reason why we shouldn’t have one here. Alex Hurley took over as winemaker in 2018 and, since then, their focus has been producing the most exciting English wines. Hurley hails from Australia and began his career at Lethbridge Wines in the Bellarine Peninsula, near Melbourne. He then worked at wineries in Montpellier, Bordeaux, Barolo, Beaune and finally Gusbourne in Kent, before joining London Cru.

"It's been a pleasure collaborating with Virgin Wines for this 25th Anniversary release. Though our partnership is still young, we were thrilled to offer a small parcel of our Sussex fruit for this exclusive bottling." - Alex Hurley, Winemaker.

Eileen

Not worth the price. I'm really unimpressed. It would have been okay as a cheap supermarket wine. The colour isn't great. It's far too thin. Seriously, £16.99 is a total rip-off.This is probably the worst review I've even written about a Virgin Wines wine!

Julian

not as good as a French Pinot
