A winery's cellar is one of those few special places that can be described as magical, and one that perfectly captures the essence of winemaking. Visiting these cellars can be truly inspirational and has led to the creation of our Magic Cellars series, where we celebrate the skills, art and magic of winemaking. This is a lovely Chenin Blanc, rich and rounded with loads of apricot fruit and a tight lemon-rind finish.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Jacques Theron
Jacques Theron earned his Viticulture & Enology degree from Stellenbosch in 2003 and has been devoted to winemaking ever since. Now Senior Winemaker at Riebeek Valley Wine Co., he focuses on expressing the Kasteelberg's diverse terroir, crafting wines that showcase purity, place and vintage character.
"The wine is fermented naturally with indigenous yeast but I control the temperature, nice and cool, to retain freshness. Before bottling we blend in a lovely oaked parcel to give the wine some additional weight and texture." - Jacques Theron, Winemaker.
