A crisp yet textural white blend from Flint Vineyard that evolves with every vintage. Silex marries bright lemon and apricot with layered notes of flint, toast and pastry. The Winemaker

Ben Witchell
Winemaker:

Ben Witchell

Ben Witchell's journey into wine began as curiosity and quickly became a lifelong passion. Leaving a career in IT, he retrained in Oenology and Viticulture at Plumpton College, graduating in 2012 with a first-class degree and top student awards. Early experience in Beaujolais introduced a more intuitive, creative style of winemaking, before he returned home to establish Flint Vineyard. Based in Norfolk, Ben has developed Flint into a benchmark for modern English wine, crafting vibrant, refined wines from sustainably grown, aromatic varieties.

"This is a fascinating English white, bringing together Chardonnay from Martin's Lane in Essex with fruit from Whitewolfe in Kent and Flint's own Norfolk vineyards. The inclusion of Pinot Noir might surprise you, but when gently pressed it can produce beautifully elegant white wines. Ben Witchell takes a hands-off approach, using concrete eggs, neutral oak and seasoned barrels, followed by 12 months on lees. The result is a textured, fruit-driven wine with wonderful freshness, savoury complexity and finesse." - Sophie Lord, Wine Buyer.
