The Wine

Country of origin:

USA

Region:

California - Sonoma

Paul Hobbs has famously been called the 'Steve Jobs' of wine by Forbes magazine, and it is clear he is a driven perfectionist whose hard work has paid off with numerous 100 points scores from critics. Crossbarn honours the values of hard work and integrity instilled in Paul from his early childhood growing up on a farm. With a commitment to sustainably nurturing the vineyards, he embraces labour-intensive winemaking techniques. The Pinot Noir grapes for this wine are hand-harvested in the cool of the night, fermented using native yeast, aged 9 months on lees with 11% in new oak barrels, use minimal sulphide and are finally bottled unfined. All this care and attention to detail creates a wine with structure and weight that is in balance with pure, concentrated fruit.

The Winemaker

Paul Hobbs, Andrea Marchiori and Luis Barraud
Winemaker:

Paul Hobbs

Paul Hobbs grew up on a working farm in upstate New York. His father would test him by taste on which apples came from which orchard. This enlightened Paul to the diversity of flavours and textures available from different sites, which would later influence his approach to winemaking. Paul has honed this skill that he acquired as a child and is now famous for having the ability to identify exceptional vineyards. He founded Paul Hobbs Winery in 1991 and he now shares his time with Vina Cobos in Argentina.

"Vibrant ruby in colour, the wine is bursting with aromas of juicy pomegranate, cherry and rhubarb, with hints of earl grey tea and cinnamon. Elegantly layered notes of ripe strawberry, raspberry, and fennel fronds create a harmonious and lifted palate accented by a delicate acidity and a subtle salinity, which hearkens to its source along the 'true' Sonoma Coast." - Paul Hobbs, Winemaker.

Amazing, did not fail to deliver of what I expected, stunning bottle of Pinot Noir

Superb y quality pinot noir

Great Pinot Noir. The fruit flavours are just incredible. Quite high acidity so worth decanting to soften it a bit, but do taste a bit straight from the bottle to get the full range of fruit!

Very good Californian pinot that looks delicate but packs a punch. 2nd glass even better than the first and still tasted good upon finishing the day after. Price tag restricts its quaffability somewhat but that adds to its appeal.
