The Wine

Country of origin:

Chile

Region:

Maule Valley

An elegant and perfumed old vine Carignan from Chile's Maule Valley, sourced from the remarkable La Aguada vineyard, home to ancient ungrafted vines and among the closest Carignan sites to the Pacific Ocean. Layers of ripe cherry, cassis, cured meat, cedar, smoke and liquorice create a muscular yet poised red that captures both richness and refinement.

The Winemaker

Eduardo Jordan
Winemaker:

Marcelo Retamal and Eduardo Jordan

As winemakers at De Martino it is our role to fulfil their ambition to create wines that reflect their origin. Our philosophy is based on minimum intervention on single vineyards, including several organic and traditional winemaking methods. Wines are crafted with native yeast, balanced in alcohol and moderate oak (when needed) to preserve the essence of the vineyards. We are proud to be the 1st place Carmenere producer, 1st South American Carbon Neutral winery, Chilean Wine Producer of the Year in 2005 & 2009 by IWSC and Chilean Winery of the Year 2011.

"The La Aguada vineyard is very special because of its old, un-grafted vines, and it is one of the closest Carignan plots to the Pacific Ocean. We want to champion the fruit from this vineyard so the blend will always remain predominantly fruit from this single site, with up to 10% added of Carménère, Cinsault and Malbec." - Marcelo Retamal and Eduardo Jordan, Winemakers.

Melissa

Lovely bold wine. Great colour with a lovely nose.

Sophie

Despite it's age there is a lovely freshness to this wine. Drank it with lamb and the pairing was superb!

Tudor

I had more expectation from this wine, I loved the colour but the taste was not my favourite quite strong.
