The Wine

Country of origin:

Chile

Region:

Malleco Valley

The De Martino Tres Volcanes comes from Chardonnay grapes sourced from a vineyard in Malleco (one of Chile's most southern wine regions), located between the Andes and the Nahuelbuta Mountain Range. With its marginal climate, high rainfall and short growing season, it is a challenging region for grape growers. However smart winemakers like Marcelo and Eduardo know that this is the perfect spot for creating crisp, fresh wines. This Chardonnay has a mellow texture, with clean, focused flavours and a nice compromise between richness and linear freshness.

The Winemaker

Eduardo Jordan
Winemaker:

Marcelo Retamal and Eduardo Jordan

As winemakers at De Martino it is our role to fulfil their ambition to create wines that reflect their origin. Our philosophy is based on minimum intervention on single vineyards, including several organic and traditional winemaking methods. Wines are crafted with native yeast, balanced in alcohol and moderate oak (when needed) to preserve the essence of the vineyards. We are proud to be the 1st place Carmenere producer, 1st South American Carbon Neutral winery, Chilean Wine Producer of the Year in 2005 & 2009 by IWSC and Chilean Winery of the Year 2011.

"We used whole bunch pressing and fermented in used barriques using indigenous yeasts. The wine was then matured in oak foudres for 16 months prior to release to create a richly textured Chardonnay." - Marcelo Retamal and Eduardo Jordan, Winemakers.
