De Martino Lote 02 Limarí Valley Pinot Noir 2023
£18.99
- We know 'elegance' sounds a bit posh, but there’s no getting around it - it’s the perfect word for a seriously good Pinot.
- The 02 is a nod to the Pinot Noir clone planted, which is much vaunted in the Gevrey Chambertin area of Burgundy.
- The Limari Valley is 400 clicks to the north of Santiago with soils heavy in Calcareous material, which Pinot loves.
- De Martino is certified by the Wines of Chile Sustainability Code, ensuring they're always working sustainably in three key areas: the vineyard, the winery and the social sector.

The Wine The Wine
Chile
Region:Limarí Valley
The fussiest of all grape varieties without question is Pinot Noir. It needs very specific conditions to thrive. A cool climate, just enough water and it adores limestone soils. Thankfully for us and the De Martino family Chile's Limarí Valley has the perfect climate and soil combination, the only issue here is rainfall, but this can be managed thanks to a few well positioned lakes. A wine with open strawberry fruit, a little menthol character and great freshness - a very precise Pinot Noir.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Nicolás Peréz
Nicolás Peréz works alongside the fourth generation of the De Martino family. Although he grew up in Santiago, Chile, during his teenage years he travelled constantly to Chilean Patagonia, where he worked on the culinary project of one of his brothers. This is where he first came into contact with the world of wine, getting to know the different producers that were operating at that time. This experience was key to his decision, at the young age of 14, to become a winemaker. From that moment on, this goal was central to all the decisions he took about his life and studies. Despite his youth, he has gained substantial experience working in different international wineries in California and Australia, before returning to his home of Chile.
At De Martino, the winemaking philosophy is based on minimal intervention on single vineyards, including sustainable farming and traditional winemaking methods. Wines are crafted with native yeast, balanced in alcohol and moderate oak (when needed) to preserve the essence of the vineyards. De Martino is proud to be the first producer to bottle single-varietal Carménère in Chile, the first South American Carbon Neutral winery, Chilean Wine Producer of the Year in 2005 & 2009 by IWSC and Chilean Winery of the Year.
"We've always had a love affair with Burgundy and Pinot Noir, but making great wine from it in Chile has been a 'We can do this' approach with many ups and downs along the way. We think we have achieved our goal, producing a very precise Pinot. Open and honest with the potential to age gracefully." - Nicolás Peréz, Winemaker.
