Region:McLaren Vale
Most releases from the 5OS team over in the McLaren Vale tend to be one-offs, not to be repeated, such is the nature of their small-batch artisanal approach to each parcel of grapes they selected. Some are last minute deals, but always on grade-A fruit from well-established producers and growers. The 'Samurai Pig' is one to buck that trend and has become an iconic 5OS production. Always crafted from 100% Shiraz from hand-selected barrels, it is a classic full-bodied red, packed with dark fruit and signature Vale silkiness.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Steve Grimley
Steve Grimley heads up the winemaking team at his small winery on Chalk Hill in the McLaren Vale. 25 years of working with him has added countless classics to our range. We have no intention of settling for all the wins we've had, we're going to continue to push the boundaries and bring you truly exceptional wines that always carry his signature drinkability.
"It's lovely and black with plenty of brightness in the glass, nothing overt aromatically but there's plenty going on once you give it chance, with a flinty graphite character that comes and goes. The palate isn't instantly forthcoming, it's tightly woven with dark black fruit and just a smidgen of earthy dark chocolate, the bitter type, and the finish is long, balanced and tense." - 5OS Winemaking Team, Winemakers.
