The Wine

Country of origin:

Spain

Region:

Montsant

If you like 'em full but soft, this is the one. The clay soil is dense, so the vines struggle in their search for water, like wading through treacle, and it's this effort that gives the grapes their unique character (you can read all of this in the accompanying comic strip, by the way). Ripe plum and black cherry aromas with a mouthcoating ripeness on the palate. Tannins are ever-present supporting the structure, but are ripe and soft. Highly drinkable!

The Winemaker

Jurgen Wagner
Winemaker:

Jurgen Wagner

Jurgen hails from Germany and attended the prestigious Geisenheim University where he studied Oenology. As part of his studies he spent his work placement in Tarragona in Spain where he discovered the village of Capcanes and the wines they produced there. After completing his studies he returned to Spain and started working with Capcanes more closely on the winemaking side and turned to full time winemaking at the winery. Jurgen now works with a small but dedicated team to craft the wines.

"This is a wild wine! The intense red colour reminds us of the clay soil where the vines are grown, these compact soils are old lake beds and make it hard going for the vine. A hard working vine produces great grapes and this is what we have here. A lovely tannic structure and lovely flavours of forest undergrowth, it's got great body and a persistent finish." Jurgen Wagner, Winemaker.
