The Wine

Country of origin:

Spain

Region:

Montsant

If you thought terroir was much over-hyped, think again. Capcanes have produced four Garnacha wines from vines grown in 4 distinctly different types of soil. This one comes from slate rich soil which gives the wine a truly robust character and structure, with some dark, baked red fruit aromas as a result of its hotter, lower-altitude location. Try it against the other three in the Garnatxes series which come from clay, sand and limestone soils.

The Winemaker

Jurgen Wagner
Winemaker:

Jurgen Wagner

Jurgen hails from Germany and attended the prestigious Geisenheim University where he studied Oenology. As part of his studies he spent his work placement in Tarragona in Spain where he discovered the village of Capcanes and the wines they produced there. After completing his studies he returned to Spain and started working with Capcanes more closely on the winemaking side and turned to full time winemaking at the winery. Jurgen now works with a small but dedicated team to craft the wines.
