The Wine

Country of origin:

Spain

Region:

Montsant

This Garnacha wine focuses on what high limestone content can give a wine, delicacy, elegance and subtlety in its structure, but with an underpinning of intense mineral character, that lifts and freshens the plum and cherry varietal character. It's part of an excellent series of wines showing the effect of terroir, but that aside, it's a wine of remarkable quality at its price.

The Winemaker

Jurgen Wagner
Winemaker:

Jurgen Wagner

Jurgen hails from Germany and attended the prestigious Geisenheim University where he studied Oenology. As part of his studies he spent his work placement in Tarragona in Spain where he discovered the village of Capcanes and the wines they produced there. After completing his studies he returned to Spain and started working with Capcanes more closely on the winemaking side and turned to full time winemaking at the winery. Jurgen now works with a small but dedicated team to craft the wines.

"From a plot of really gnarly old vines exposed to the elements and on loose fragmented rock. The vines have to work hard here by sending their roots deep into the rocks to search for water, on the way they pick up the mineral elements in the soil. The rain, when it comes, drains quickly so these vines have to do a lot of searching to keep themselves going. The result is a lovely, complex wine, subtle aromas with floral tones and a big complex mouthfeel with a great long finish." - Jurgen Wagner, Winemaker.
