The Wine

Country of origin:

New Zealand

Region:

Marlborough

It's always fascinating to see how grape varieties express themselves in new places. Here, Forrest Estate has crafted a tiny, experimental batch of Chenin Blanc from a warm Marlborough site. The result is a richer style, shaped by flavours of pear, quince, jasmine, greengage plum and ginger. Zesty acidity brings lift and balance, while a creamy, mineral texture adds depth. A pioneering, small-production Chenin offering character, freshness and a compelling new take on a classic grape.

The Winemaker

Beth Forrest
Winemaker:

Beth Forrest

The team at Forrest have been working tirelessly to make lower ABV wines by following more traditional processes in the vineyards and winery, not looking to technology to do the work for them. The biggest problem was getting the balance between the sugar and acid right, especially the sugar. Through meticulous vineyard work and strict temperature control through fermentations they've achieved what they set out to do - make naturally lower ABV wines that are wonderfully balanced and deliver top-notch drinking.

"One of the world's noble grape varietals whose spiritual home is the Loire Valley, France. It is very vigorous in the vineyard and it requires constant supervision to keep yields in check. Has great aromatics, fresh acidity, palate weight, longevity and is food friendly!" - Beth Forrest, Winemaker.

Lovely example of a Chenin, slightly riper than those from SA.
