This wine comes from some of the highest-altitude vineyards in Mendoza at over 1000m above sea level. The quality of the grapes is elevated by the cooler temperatures, which balance the intensity of the sunshine and create a long ripening period. A deeply coloured, full-bodied red with fresh blueberry and black cherry fruit, hints of clove and ripe tannins. The resulting wines have an alluring combination power and finesse, making this a very special bottle of Malbec indeed.

On a buying trip to California, our Head of Buying, Sophie Lord, discovered Heather Nenow - a rising star whose winemaking perfectly expresses the character of Lodi vineyards. Impressed by her Cabernet, Sophie saw an opportunity and teamed up with California legend David Akiyoshi, whose roots trace back to Robert Mondavi. Together, they crafted this standout Cabernet Sauvignon using Heather's Lodi grapes and select cellar parcels. Brimming with ripe blackcurrant, cassis, liquorice, coconut, vanilla and leather, it's youthful yet structured - delicious now, or ideal for cellaring.

This is a lovely grape variety when made well, with an excellent ability to express its origin - in this case, the sun-soaked vineyards of Sicily. Lovely, ripe stone fruit lifted by refreshing citrus and a mineral edge to the finish thanks to the limestone-rich soils these vines were grown in. This is a great all-rounder but pairs superbly well with chicken in all its guises.
