If you've ever spent any time in South Africa's Western Cape, you will most likely have heard the word 'lekker' used in numerous situations. This distinctly South African term is used to describe something which is great, enjoyable or in reference to having fun. Therefore, when we tasted this joyous, fruit-filled Cabernet Sauvignon with winemaker Jacques Theron and he referred to it as 'lekker', we had to name it just that! A wine packed with bold red fruits and well-integrated tannins that will make a great partner to traditional South African fayre like bobotie or a selection of biltong.

Jacques Theron
Jacques Theron earned his Viticulture & Enology degree from Stellenbosch in 2003 and has been devoted to winemaking ever since. Now Senior Winemaker at Riebeek Valley Wine Co., he focuses on expressing the Kasteelberg's diverse terroir, crafting wines that showcase purity, place and vintage character.
"The 2022 harvest was a longer than average one, with a cool ripening season. Our Swartland Cabernet was harvested very late in the vintage, so the bunches gained the benefit of a long hang-time in vineyards, developing flavours slowly and ending up with wonderful concentration and balance." - Jacques Theron, Winemaker.
