Region:Loire - Muscadet
This is a really cracking bottle from a single vineyard 20Km South of Nantes in the western Loire Valley. Slightly confusing is that 'Château Thebaud' is actually the vineyard area - singled out for a very distinctive microclimate that produces very intense mineral-edge wines of exceptional purity - and not a Château. This is the very top-end of Muscadet with a minimum of 36 months ageing on the lees (sur lie) before bottling. A really intriguing glass of wine. Stone fruit nose and a palate that is round and cut through with a zingy grapefruit character. Brilliant with dishes that include creamy sauces.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Sebastien Branger
Domaine la Haut Fevrie is one of the leading producers in Muscadet Sever et Maine. Working both organically and bio dynamically they look to produce wines that are pure to their origins and absorb the soil which gives them life. Working vineyards in prized areas, in a region where exposure to the sun is critical, they craft some of the best value wines on the planet.
"We harvest everything by hand to ensure the grapes retain as much character as possible. Melon de Bourgogne is quite a neutral variety and I want to do everything possible to craft wines that have as much character as possible. I look to balance the vibrant grapefruit notes with a little richness and softness on the palate and as always I want to make gastronomic wines with great ageing potential." - Sebastien Branger, Winemaker.
