The Wine The Wine

This wine comes from one of the most beautiful wineries our Wine Buyer, Alex Davies, has ever been to. The Grati family are growers in Chianti Rufina, a multi generation family-owned winery where they all sit down and have lunch together every day like clockwork. Their hillside winery where they also make Vin Santo, sits on the side of a mountain: a lovely old building with rustic outbuildings. The vineyards are interspersed with lemon trees and flowers, and here these organically grown vines are tended with great care. The hilly vineyard sites have the ideal southerly aspect to ensure the perfect amount of sun for ripening the grapes, but the altitude tempers the heat. It's also quite far from the coast so there are big diurnal temperature swings, all of which results in an elegant and impactful red wine with soft tannins, plenty of freshness, and beautiful depth of flavour.
