  • A 'must try' for any serious Rioja lover - this is a very special wine from one of THE best terroirs in La Rioja.
  • Made from very old Garnacha vines with small, concentrated yields - in fact only one barrel (660 bottles) is made from each vintage.
  • Ripe red fruits and oaky spice are supported by a delicate freshness and a mineral core. There is a satisfyingly full body and a long, smooth finish to boot.
  • ABV: 14.5%
  • Vintage: 2018
  • Size: 75cl

The Wine

Country of origin:

Spain

Region:

Rioja

Rioja has recently undergone a bit of a change, with the introduction of a Viñedo Singular (single vineyard) classification. This is only awarded to the very best sites in Rioja and is linked to the quality of the terroir instead of the time spent ageing. There are currently only 74 vineyards (out of over 16,000) which qualify for this accolade, and fewer than 15 wines which are currently on the market with this classification - of which Cerro La Isa is one, making it extremely sought after. It is made from 114 year old Garnacha vines which have been looked after by five generations of growers. The single vineyard site is located in the highest and coolest area of Rioja Alta at an altitude of 565 to 650 metres. This is important as this gives a strong temperature variation between night and day, causing the grapes to ripen slowly and allows for the development of complex flavours. Once picked the grapes are fermented and aged in a premium new French oak barrel for 18 months to add further layers of flavour to this stunningly elegant and high-quality red.

Customer ratings

Very disappointing, took the shine off Boxing Day for my family and I. As a Rioja fan I was so looking forward to drinking this wine, but it was flat, lack-lustre and very dull. Absolutely does not justify the price tag in my view or merit the glowing write-up submitted for it. If I was being kind possibly corked?

Simply beautiful wine, so smooth
