Malbec is now linked intrinsically to the vineyards and wines of Argentina but it has been grown in France's Loire Valley for centuries. It might come as a bit of a surprise to find it here, as this is one of the world's coolest regions and Malbec is a late ripening variety in need of plenty of heat. You won't be surprised to know that there is now very little remaining, but it is thanks to people like Henry Marionnet we can enjoy wines from traditional varieties produced exactly how they were many years ago. It has a very deep colour with fresh black fruit characters and should be allowed to breathe to show its best. It will open up with a bit of air but retain a lively crunchiness. Great with lamb or beef dishes.
