Region:Champagne
It is difficult to put into words just how incredible this Champagne is. The first shock, after parting with your dosh, is that when poured, it's not pink in colour but a wonderful iridescent amber. Cellared for a decade before release, it is boggling how this vintage rosé has kept the intensity and vibrancy of youthful fruit. Everything builds from here: the structure is a woven tapestry of flavours that changes with every sniff and sip. This can be served up at any celebration, but it is also exceptional when paired with gastronomy. Try alongside a roast rack of new-season lamb, fresh peas, broad beans and jersey royals.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Richard Geoffroy
Richard Geoffroy was appointed Chef de Cave at Dom Perignon in 1990. He was born and grew up in the heart of Champagne's Chardonnay vineyards but initially trained in medicine, qualifying in 1982. The call of the grape finally took hold of him and he trained in oenology in Reims. His first gig was in Napa where he gained the invaluable basics of business that also gave him a view of the wine world from the outside. His vision is clear - to craft wines that are complex and harmonious.
"Tropical notes of guava and curry leaf melt away into more classical ones of zest and very ripe stone fruit. Cocoa and toasted spices complement the whole. On the palate, the wine has a bracing vinosity. Its initial richness expands and affirms itself, becoming more physical, powerful and structured. It has a remarkable length in the mouth, with a touch of liquorice and a backdrop of juicy, bitter blood orange." - Richard Geoffroy, Winemaker.
