The Wine

Country of origin:

France

Region:

Roussillon

True old vine Cinsault is not dissimilar to Pinot Noir in colour and texture, however, it has an extra dimension of a peppery liveliness to it. This exclusive release from the warmer south of France, has a little extra alcohol than some expressions which adds a little polish and sleekness to the finished wine. A lovely vibrant red colour, this delightful Penombre Reserve Cinsault is a perfect response to the trend for drinking chilled reds, especially in the warmer months of the calendar. With lashings of fresh red fruits, this is a bright and untamed bottling of old vine Cinsault.

A rare gem as so little Cinsault is vinified as red wine in France anymore. Most is used nowadays for rosé. It is a bit of a pity, but that makes La Penombre Reserve Cinsault even more fabulous. Made from vines grown on a uniquely cool terroir near the tiny hamlet of Nidoleres in the Roussillon - The Deep South of France - and we must cherish vineyards such as these. This Cinsault, crafted exclusively from low-yielding old vines, is a true expression of a traditional French red.

"We love the inherent freshness of this wine and adore its slightly rustic charm. In the summer it can be drunk on its own, lightly chilled, and in the colder darker months it works in perfect harmony with stew and the like." - Pierre Escudié & Kim Tidy, Winemakers.

The wine is made well enough. I don't enjoy thin light fruity reds and prefer cinsault as a rose. looking for something with more from Roussillon.
