After the passing of John Walker's father he sold the family farm and set up a grocery store in the Scottish town of Kilmarnock. His love and skill for whisky began in that very store where he blended different single malts together to create better balance and more consistency. His blending skills were clearly impressive as his 'shop blended' whisky became a very popular choice with the locals. And so the Johnnie Walker blend was born and today is enjoyed all over the world.
