  • The Albariño adds beautiful aromatics, similar to the classic Shiraz Viognier blends of the Northern Rhône Valley in France.
  • The lifted aromatics display plum, rhubarb and spice, which lead onto a silky palate of stewed fruit and cassis before a soft, lingering finish.
  • As usual, the packaging is more than eye-catching and it’ll look great on any dinner table, especially with a roast dinner.
  • ABV: 14.5%

The Wine

Country of origin:

Australia

Region:

McLaren Vale

This new release from Steve and the Five O’Clock Somewhere team in Australia is a testament to the small-batch, hand-crafted nature of these tiny bottlings. Old-vine Shiraz forms the base of the wine and has been fermented in open-top fermenters, 10 days on its skins, before pressing. In true pioneering 'throw away the rule book' style, it is blended with a small parcel of Albariño, which was hand-picked in the early hours of the morning to retain freshness and varietal character. Once at the winery, the Albariño batch was too small for the press and they couldn’t secure a basket press in time, so it was hand-pressed by Steve and the team. Never has a wine been more hands-on than this parcel!

"It doesn’t get more hand-crafted than hand-pressing grapes, which is what we did with the Albariño part of the blend here. When all done, we ended up with just over 1,000 bottles, and we’ve not a lot left now. A wine with an excellent aroma, and the densely fruited palate is given an elegance and lift from the Albariño." - Steve Grimley, Winemaker.
