Region:Rhône - Vaucluse
Domaine de la Berthete is a little 'old school' winery in the Rhône Valley that at first glance seems a little run down and tired. That impression is rapidly erased when winemaker Pascal Maillet starts pulling tank and barrel samples to taste! His wines truly wow the senses with their expressive fruit, harmonious tannins, and perfectly structured finishes. A blend of traditional Rhône varieties, Grenache, Carignan and the lesser known Caladoc are combined in perfect measures to create a wine that has plenty of poise and masses of by-the-glass enjoyment.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Pascal Maillet
We farm some quite difficult, stony vineyards, where only the old vines can really get through to the water, to get to this vigorous style of wine that the domaine supports.
"Our vines are well rooted thanks to their age and this specially blended bottling draws on some of our best parcels and is given a further boost by the addition of a little component from the stony vineyards we have in the Plan de Dieu." - Pascal Maillet, Winemaker.
