The Wine

Country of origin:

France

Region:

Bordeaux - Pessac-Léognan

Despite Bordeaux's unrivalled fame for red wine, the soils of some sites in Pessac-Léognan effortlessly contribute to the quality of some very fine white wines. Sauvignon Blanc is the most dominant here as it loves the gravel soils with a limestone base, but Sémillon also flourishes. In Château de Belloc Pessac-Léognan the Sauvignon brings structure, freshness and fruitiness, whilst the Sémillion offers body and unique aromas of candied lemon.

The Winemaker

Pierre-Hubert Gory
Winemaker:

Pierre-Hubert Gory

Since graduating Pierre-Hubert Gory has worked in vineyards in famous wine producing regions such as Beaujolais, Ribera del Duero and Bordeaux, perfecting his winemaking skills. He describes himself as dynamic and passionate, and we agree!

"We take care to harvest the grapes at their best, so we hand-picked the Sauvignon Blanc two weeks before the Semillon. This was to capture the natural acidity of the of the Sauvignon grapes and allow the development of richer flavours in the Semillon. The next phase is mastering fermentation in oak barrels, allowing the expression of the fruit. We also stir the lees for the first few months to obtain body and to reveal the best tastes." - Pierre-Hubert Gory, Winemaker.

This has undermined every five star review I've ever given. Phenomenal wine that that was fresh enough pre-Christmas dinner, but strong enough to stand up to the meal.
