The Wine The Wine
USA
Region:California - Mendocino
This single vineyard Pinot Noir by Failla was one of the last wines tasted on Buyer Alex's tasting trip back in the spring. Last but by no means least though. The Savoy vineyard in Anderson Valley is seriously premium terroir. Its volcanic soil gives the wine a mineral backbone that amplifies its intensity and lengthens the cherry and strawberry-laden finish into next week. It has impact, but in its elegance.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Ehren Jordan
Ehren began his preparation for winemaking at George Washington University where he majored in Art History with a minor in Classical Archaeology. In fact, Ehren has no formal degree in winemaking, a fact he proudly credits with his success. Eschewing traditional routes to a winemaking education, Ehren instead worked his way up the vertical integration ladder ending up working with Jean-Luc Columbo in the Rhône Valley where he finally began serious winemaking. The rest, as they say, is history.
"This is my latest vintage using Savoy Vineyard grapes. The site's gently sloping, south-western facing aspect allows the grapes to drink in afternoon and evening sunshine while staying relatively cool at night. This is a wine that needs time. Keep it corked until the summer grilling season, or better yet lay it down for up to 10 years and experience its full potential." Ehren Jordan, Winemaker.
