Romania has a history of winemaking stretching back millennia. So, whilst you may not recognise the name of the region or the grape variety, you are in very safe hands with this full bodied and sumptuously fruity red.

Like the famous albacore tuna, the guys behind Albacore wines have endless energy and determination. Their niche is selecting the best grapes from individual regions and bringing them together seamlessly. This is a rich, smooth red, softened by age. It has pronounced notes of damson fruit with dark undertones, backed by classic mature notes of leather, chocolate box and spice. A beautiful comfort wine with an enveloping structure.

Señorío de Algás Gran Reserva 2017

The quality of wine you get here for the price is quite possibly unrivalled. Only the best fruit gets selected for Gran Reserva as it needs the higher quality to stand the test of time. And then it's left to mature in fine oak barrels for two years (they ain't cheap) before bottling and stored before eventual release. The end result is a wine with complexity and elegance, full of dried fruit aromas and spicy character. The ultimate match for robustly flavoured foods.

The Black Pig Viognier 2023

All too often Viognier is just too much. Too intensely aromatic. Too rich. Too alcoholic. But! When you turn it down from 11 and aim for a solid 8 you can really appreciate the flavour profile of this classy grape variety. We don't put anything under our huge 'Black Pig' label unless it really is the cream of the crop, so expect no pulled punches here. This wine bridges the gap between New World fruitiness and Old World elegance. Plenty of stone fruit character with a freshness that belies the warm clime.

Trois Calices Essentiel 2022

Here winemaker Eric Lanxade expertly balances perfumed Gros Manseng, Colombard and everyone's favourite; zippy Sauvignon Blanc. It creates the perfect trinity. The vines from which these grapes come are planted on alluvial river plains with minerally, rich soils. These are great for the cultivation of full-flavoured and elegant wines like Trois Calices.
