The greatest thing about our Billy Bosch wines is the natural feel they possess. Focus of the nose of this pure Merlot is classic cherry and plum fruit with a little darker fruit intensity underneath. The palate starts off all juicy and full before crisper red berried notes, lending freshness, take over, keeping the wine in perfect balance. Great with a midweek meal like spaghetti bolognese, or nibbles and a movie.

The 2022 vintage followed a normal to good winter, allowing the vines to have that essential period of downtime to rest up ready to go again. The harvest started fairly late after a cool spring and early summer conditions but commenced at a brisk pace after some nasty heatwaves. This is a real discovery wine and captures the winemaking movements taking place in the Cape perfectly. In previous years this would be blended away in other cuvées, but when our buyer was visiting he was utterly captivated by this wine's lifted red fruit, cherry note and the luscious creamy fruited textured palate.

The Pizo series is all about varietal character. The location of the vineyard, its altitude and the soil type all play an important role in allowing the fruit here to express everything it can and should. The long days of Spanish summer sunshine mean the fruit can gradually but thoroughly ripen. The altitude keeps the temperature in check so there's no chance of over-ripeness. And then there's the slate-rich soils which give the wine a clear and defined structure with a mineral texture to the palate.

This is a great little blend using one of Piedmont's flagship varieties, Barbera, to express the intense red fruit that so many Northern Italian red grapes can offer. But the small addition of some special Pinot Noir, or Pinot Nero to the locals, gives this racy little rosé a touch of ripeness and generosity, just softening the edge of the redcurrant and cranberry character, resulting in a wine that is complete with or without food.

All too often Viognier is just too much. Too intensely aromatic. Too rich. Too alcoholic. But! When you turn it down from 11 and aim for a solid 8 you can really appreciate the flavour profile of this classy grape variety. We don't put anything under our huge 'Black Pig' label unless it really is the cream of the crop, so expect no pulled punches here. This wine bridges the gap between New World fruitiness and Old World elegance. Plenty of stone fruit character with a freshness that belies the warm clime.

Sauvignon Blanc loves the Chilean climate and benefits from cooling Pacific breezes and lovely, clear, sunny days. At harvest, which takes place from the end of February to the middle of March each vintage, grapes of wonderful concentration and vibrancy are hand-harvested before cool fermentation to preserve Sauvignon Blanc's racy goodness. Crisp and zingy with mouth-watering citrus and peach fruit. This is a white to serve chilled with good company.
