This seven year old, full-bodied Nicaraguan rum from the amazing 5th generation Flor de Cana distillery is utterly delicious. In the glass, the beautiful mahogany colour is massively inviting, tempting you to get to second base and give it a nose. The aromas of toasted coconuts, vanilla and figs are captivating before you head to third base and taste. The palate is rich and rounded with honey and dark chocolate notes before you glide past fourth base and enjoy the long smooth finish of the home run!

The story of Flor de Cana is one of bravery and adventure and it began in 1875 when Alfredo Francisco Pellas Canessa, a young man from Genoa, Italy, risked everything by leaving the comforts of the old continent to travel to the exotic country of Nicaragua. In 1890 he found the perfect setting for the Flor de Cana distillery at the base of the San Cristóbal volcano, the tallest and most active volcano in Nicaragua! Madness or genius? Only time would tell. The fertility of its surrounding lands, a pure water source and the hot volcanic climate were instrumental in forging the rum's unique and distinguished character. Through its 130-year history, the brand, the company and the family have lived through a civil war, nationalizations, hyperinflation, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Throughout all this, and against all odds, the company has also been able to remain a family business for five generations.
The Perfect Serve The Perfect Serve
This is a superbly versatile rum that can of course be enjoyed neat but it also makes a great base for a whole host of rum based cocktails. The simplest way, and one of the best, to enjoy this rum is to make a refreshing long drink. Take a highball glass and drop in 4 to 5 ice cubes, add 50ml of rum, a good squeeze of fresh lime, an equally good squeeze of fresh lemon and top the glass up with soda or sparkling water. Gentle stir to mix and garnish with a wedge of either lemon or lime or both!
