10 Organic Wines that You Need to Try

By Virgin Wines

We live in an exciting time for organic wines with a wide and growing variety in the marketplace. Our superstar wine buyer, Dave Roberts, shares his top 10 organic wines that you need to try right away!

Chateau du Seuil Graves Blanc

Chateau du Seuil Graves Blanc 2016 – £14.99

Nicola and Sean at Chateau du Seuil have been supplying us with their wines for over a decade. They embarked on organic conversion of vines from 2009 and today are fully-certified.

This is their Graves Blanc which is a blend of 70% Semillon and 30% Sauvignon Blanc. A full yet fresh white with delicately balanced oak and perfect with shellfish.

Chateau Musar Jeune Red – £11.99

Working organically wasn’t a conscious decision for the guys at Chateau Musar. It’s just the way it is and always has been since Gaston Hochar planted the first vines in 1930 after returning from a trip to Bordeaux.

This is a fairly new addition to their range and a wine to be enjoyed in its youth. A Cinsault led blend that is packed with juicy fruit and layered with spice.

Tinedo Basico 2017 – £10.99

These guys took over from their father and went about on a revolution to bring the winery into the modern era. They began in the vineyards, where all great wines begin, and set about converting to organic.

We’ve created a number of exclusive releases with them and this is the latest. A beautifully slick wine made from 100% Tempranillo. Lashings of black fruit and perfectly balanced tannins.

Odfjell Vineyards Winemakers Traversy – £19.99

The Odfjell estate is one of Chile’s leading organic and biodynamic producers. They work in harmony with the plants’ life cycle and encourage a healthy balance between the soil, flora and fauna.

Very lifted intense nose with lavender, red fruit and blackcurrant notes. Super fresh and very nicely blended with just the right amount of oak. Beautifully well-managed.

Domaine La Haute Fevrie Clos de la Fevrie Muscadet Sevre et Maine Sur Lie – £12.99

Muscadet is far from fashionable but appears to be experiencing somewhat of a revival. We discovered the wines of this Domaine at a tasting in Paris where they stole the show up against many more lauded regions.

The wines have incredible depth and purity and are an absolute bargain when compared to the wines of say Chablis or Sancerre.

Domaine Denis Jamin Les Fossiles Reuilly Sauvignon Blanc – £14.99

Denis Jamain is something of a legend in winemaking circles for his meticulous approach to winemaking. He’s widely regard as the main man in the region of Reuilly and his wines are incredibly precise with exceptional fruit intensity.

A varietal Sauvignon Blanc that combines bright citrus fruit and steely freshness.

Domaine Denis Jamain Les-Fossiles Reuilly Pinot Noir – £14.99

Another majestic bottle from the legendary Denis Jamain but this time a delicious red. A classic Pinot Noir with exceptional quality.

A super juicy red full of redcurrants, raspberries and ripe cherries. No oak and a very pure expression of one of the world’s greatest red grape varieties.

Walnut Block Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc – £13.99

The Sowman family are long time growers in Marlborough and when Clyde and his brother Nigel decided to set something up outside the family estate, they went at it straight away using organics. They adopt the belief that organic results yield higher quality grapes and ultimately finished wines with more depth of flavour and texture.

Vibrant citrus fruit, tropical richness and delicate mineral notes. A very complete bottle of wine.

Corvezzo Prosecco DOC Treviso Extra Dry Organic – £14.99

Fabio is an organic wine specialist with over 30 years’ experience. He follows the philosophy of owner, Giovanni Corvezzo, to be the ‘Happy Farmer’. Giovanni was a pioneer in the 1980s for developing a pest management system to reduce the use of pesticides and today. Having fully converted to organic production, Fabio creates one of the purest forms of Prosecco that we’ve seen.

Crystal clear apple, pear and citrus aromas and flavours on the freshest of palates are proof that organic farming can correlate directly to higher quality wine.

Palabra Pasada Organic Syrah – £10.99

This is a brand new venture in La Mancha, Spain, where the climate lends itself naturally to organic viticulture. Winemaker Jorge Martinez works closely with the viticulture team to push up the quality and standards of work in the vines and he’s really happy with the progress made. We are too!

This is a lively Syrah with lovely purity and plenty of energy.
