Black Flag

The concept of Black Flag came about on a sunny evening in Australia between Steve, Andy and the team about how commercialized the world of wine can be. 90% of the wines we sell here at Virgin Wines are exclusive and hand crafted just for us, but what they wanted to know was what would be the next level beyond that? Winemaking without limits, and wine without preconceptions, was the ultimate conclusion.

Nothing was to be off the table. Any grape variety, or blend, would be considered. Likewise any scale of production, be it 1,000 cases or 100. The only proviso was that these wines had to be crafted without any constraints or compromise.

Fast forward two years and here we are. The concept has been developed, the wines have been created, all with some kind of romantic vision of being the pirates of the wine world! Utilising the fantastic grapes grown by creative and independent winemakers across McLaren Vale, as well as Steve’s own vineyards, the end result is one we’re delighted with. Right from the vines to the designs of the bottles, and of course the innovative and exciting wines themselves.

These are wines which you won’t find anywhere else on the planet, or even on our website again once the stock has been sold out. Very much made to be enjoyed in the moment.
