The Wine The Wine
USA
Region:California
Those cats at Bear Creek have taken the Bordeaux standard and juiced it up and we've wrapped it in a cool label to demonstrate how cutting edge you really are. And why not? Standards are made to be beaten, right? The wine itself couldn't be more approachable. It's what we like to call fleshy, it has lots of soft, juicy fruit. So it's happy enough to be drunk on its own, but equally relaxed with red meats.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Natale Gagliardo
Natale Gagliardo is winemaker to the Kautz Family, 4th generation family growers. Their vineyards are nestled in California's Sierra Foothills' charming gold rush town of Murphys. This area is not one of the big-hitting names, like Napa or Sonoma, but instead it does attract some great winemakers who form the vanguard of winemaking in the States, Natale being one of the finest.
"Highway 99 Merlot brings some funky Californian style to your table, where a dusty bottle of claret just will not do. The wine itself couldn't be more approachable. It's openly fruity, with lively red fruits and a ripe and easy nature." Andrew Baker, Wine Buyer.
