Gran Villa Gran Reserva 2004

Gran Villa Gran Reserva 2004

  • Gran Villa is a comforting red that really comes into its own when partnered with food.
  • Cook up all sorts of feasts from roasted vegetable risotto to a slow braised lamb shank - get the cook book out and go for it!
  • Will appeal to lovers of silky, elegant, wistful European classics.

This wine is a real find for those of you who like fully mature red wines. Not only is this a decade old, it is also still vibrant and cherry red in the glass and bursting with fruit on the nose and palate. With Merlot, Cabernet and the Riojan varietal Graciano, adding some romance and 'je ne sais quoi', making up the constituent parts of this blend, there is some beautiful teamwork on the go here in this mellow, cultured red.

Milagros Rodriguez

Winemaker: Milagros Rodriguez

Winery: Valdizarbe, Navarra

Country: Spain

We understand wine as the culmination of a process that begins with the grape. We take painstaking efforts to bring out the most distinguishing characteristics of each vineyard. We select the best grapes, harvest them at the right moment and handle the bunches with the greatest care. During the process of elaboration, with the pressing of the grapes, temperature control and remounting, we maximize the aromas and the concentration of polyphenoles. For the ageing process we choose the best wood for each wine.

Navarra is a wonderful part of Spain in the foothills of the Pyrenees that has a long history of making great wines. The vineyards of this highly regarded producer lie on the gentle limestone-based soil slopes within the tiny sub-region of Valdizarbe. The total production accounts for a very small part of Navarra's total output, but good things come in small packages, so they say!

Bodegas San Martin Senorio de Unx Vinas Viejas Garnacha 2011

Bodegas San Martin Senorio de Unx Vinas Viejas Garnacha Spanish Red Wine

Type: Grenache / Garnacha

This illustrates the joyous style that is 100% Garnacha. It's a young, vibrant Garnacha that really doesn't taste like what Rioja ought to, but has seen a surge in popularity in recent times.
