The Wine

Country of origin:

Portugal

Region:

Douro Valley

Another sensational Port from one of the most famous Vintage Port houses, Croft. A blend of traditional Port grapes, picked when the grapes were fully ripe, gives this a deep ruby finish. A luscious body promotes deep, black berry flavours and hints of chocolate. This is a powerful red that winemaker David Guimaraens has done an exceptional job of producing. You will not be disappointed.

The Winemaker

David Guimaraens
Winemaker:

David Guimaraens

David Guimaraens is the 6th generation of the founder of Fonseca Guimaraens. At 18, he set out to experience winemaking in Australia, California and Oregon. David formalised his education in Oenology at Roseworthy Agricultural College in South Australia. After graduating and working, he returned to Portugal in 1990 to join the Fonseca winemaking team. He has been instrumental in producing the Fonseca and Taylor Fladgate wines since, now serving as a Director of Taylor Fladgate and Fonseca.

"Characteristic complexity of spices and clove aromas seduce the senses, with fat, ripe raisins, fresh fruity raspberry, gum cistus and violet undertones. A rich opulent wine with great tannic structure. Dark plums, blackberry jam, raspberry and spice flavours on the mouth; finishing with dark bitter chocolate that stays on the palate forever." David Guimaraens, Winemaker.

Everything you want from a 19 y. o. Port

Still dark and heavy, opinion spoiled by the fantastic 63 presently enjoying

We opened this and let it breath as we felt it had a very bitter after taste. The breathing didn't help, average port, wasn't as smooth as we had hoped.
