Champagne and Food Pairings

By Virgin Wines

If you ask any one of us here at Virgin Wines HQ what our favourite celebratory wine is, chances are it’s going to be Champagne. Light and fruity on the palate, Champagne is brilliant on its own and even better when paired with a delicious dish.

Our Editor shares three unusual food combinations to pair with a delicious glass of bubbly.

Champagne and Oysters

Let’s be honest, a bottle of Champagne and some delicious oysters is probably the best aphrodisiac out there. With beautiful, subtle flavours, we would recommend pairing oysters with a dry, citrus champagne such as the Gremillet Selection Brut.

Champagne and French Fries*

An unlikely combination suggested by the iconic champagne brand Moet and Chandon, is Champagne and French fries. The refreshing zesty flavours of some Champagnes will cut through the saltiness of the French Fries making the ultimate pairing.
