Let us transport you to sunny California, feel the warm breeze, smell the damp dirt and taste the juicy wines. Over one hundred grape varieties are grown in California and this state is responsible for around 81% of the nation’s wine production. There are a couple of leading varieties, one of them being Zinfandel, which has become synonymous with the region. The sunny area lets this famous fruit flourish with ripe and intensely flavoured grapes, hence why it’s such a fan favourite.
Sunny weather, hot food straight of the grill and a glass of chilled Zinfandel is pure bliss. American-style barbeques are becoming more popular worldwide, and to stay truly authentic to the cuisine, you’ll want a cool glass of something delicious. The best part about Zinfandel is how truly versatile it is.
A style of burger known and loved in California. How you make yours is completely up to you but have a selection of toppings ready including burger sauce, pickles, caramelised onions and if you want to go full Californian-local than you can add some cascabella peppers.
Pair this with the Liberty Road Old Vine Lodi Zinfandel 2022. This bold, oaky red will complement a smash burger from those who love to add layers of salad to the saucy, salty types.
Coat some corn, onions and asparagus in olive oil and pop them on the grill. Put together a dressing of Dijon mustard, vinegar and garlic and lather the veggies in it. Toss it with some white beans, herbs of your choice (we recommend parsley and thyme) and crumble feta over the top.
Try the Big Top White Zinfandel Rosé NV, a fruity rosé packed with flavours of strawberry jam on the palate and strawberry ice cream on the nose. Delicious!
Smother some fish fillets (of your choice) in coriander and lime tartare sauce then sprinkle some breadcrumbs, cheese, coriander, cayenne and lime zest over the fish as well as a dot of butter. Grill the fish for 10-15 mins until the top is crispy and golden and serve with salad and potatoes.
Try this with the Zin Junction Lodi Zinfandel 2022. Whilst a heady, bold red isn’t a usual pairing with fish, you could chill this for 20 mins and find the refreshing coolness pairs well with the lightness of the fish.
