We’ve got the best spring wines for your fair-weather plans right here. From wines to enjoy with your Easter feasts to top drops for your bank holiday toasts, you’re sure to find something delicious to pair with your April and May plans.
Starting strong, we have an Australian Sauvignon Blanc for sipping in the sunshine.
Time in barrel has added extra layers to this aromatic white, but it hasn’t taken over. There’s still a core of classy Sauvignon fruit that ensures the palate is flooded with signature varietal notes of grapefruit, grass and minerality. The wine also has a freshness to it thanks to the grapes being picked in the cool of the night.
As the label artwork suggests, this premium Sauvignon Blanc is for enjoying on sunny days, and it pairs wonderfully with seafood and salads.
Next up we have a British pink wine to pair with your garden get-togethers this spring.
We’re all for this home-grown rosé that totally holds its own against any European offering. Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier provide a lovely, soft fruit character, while Chardonnay gives a freshness and aromatic quality that is maintained by cool fermentation at low temperatures.
The result is a pale pink with a herby and aromatic nose of strawberry, raspberry, pink grapefruit and black pepper. In the mouth, it’s crisp and light with rushes of red berry fruit, crushed thyme and a backbone of chalky minerality, making it great with seafood.
For your bank holiday celebrations we have a pretty French fizz to get the party started.
This beautiful bubbly is from Limoux in the Languedoc region, an area of France that’s widely regarded as home to the world’s first traditional-method sparkling wine, 150-ish years earlier than Dom Perignon created his very first Champagne!
Crisp, vibrant and exceptionally refreshing, it has orchard fruit flavours and a long, balanced finish. One of the best spring wines on our website right now, this is an absolute must for your spring catch ups.
Next up we have a juicy drop from Australia that’ll pair beautifully with all your milk chocolate treats this Easter.
Made from the best parcels of Adelaide Hills fruit, this is a silky, elegant red wine that’s got a little more oomph than a French Pinot Noir thanks to the strong Aussie sunshine giving it lashings of drinkability. It still has the classic characteristics of a good Pinot Noir, yet offers a New World flavour profile and impressive length.
Aromas of strawberry and a ripe raspberry palate will complement milk chocolate and not overpower it, so why not crack open a bottle of this with your biggest Easter egg?
A bright, floral Riesling that showcases the exceptional quality and craftsmanship of Chile’s Valle Central region.
This is a wonderful dry Riesling bursting with notes of zesty lime, stone fruits and elderflower leading to a sumptuously long finish. Made from grapes that were picked at optimal ripeness, this crisp white really highlights the natural concentration of fruit character that Riesling contains.
Serve chilled on its own or alongside freshly shucked oysters or your favourite cheeses.
Try something new this season with our organic orange wine made from Argentinian Chardonnay grapes.
This no-added-sulphite, unfiltered Chardonnay is bold and vibrant with a golden hue and aromas of peach, apple, orange peel and a hint of honeysuckle. Elegant and zesty, it has a saline touch and subtle grip, adding to this wine’s endless charm.
Being an orange wine, this has a savoury character you wouldn’t normally get with a white wine, along with extraordinary depth and vibrant structure. Its pronounced acidity makes this wine very versatile, so enjoy it with a salty charcuterie board, Asian cuisine or even roasted squash risotto.
How about an excellent value Tempranillo from the soaring peaks of Cariñena’s hills?
This is a great varietal expression of Spain’s flagship black grape that we usually associate with the famous Rioja region. High-altitude vineyards give this wine a surprising freshness and softness.
In terms of flavour, it’s packed with darker fruits such as bramble accompanied by hints of chocolate and spice, and a lovely, textured mouthfeel. Pair with hearty stews and casseroles on those cooler spring evenings that call for getting cosy.
A pale, dry rosé from France is always a top choice this time of year, so here’s one of our best spring wines in this style.
Boasting bright red berry flavours, a creamy textured palate and a naturally fresh finish, this Grenache-based rosé is as refreshing as they come.
Fabulous on the dinner table or at a picnic, it’ll complement a range of different foods including tapas, goat’s cheese salads, prawns, grilled fish and herby chicken.
The final red in our line-up is a brand-new Chilean Cabernet for you to swirl and savour this season.
This is a smooth, full-bodied red with notes of blackcurrant, cassis and cedar followed by a toasty vanilla finish. Brimming with big flavours, it offers silky tannins, balanced fruit and is very easy drinking.
This one is especially delicious sipped alongside roast lamb or roast beef, making it a great bottle for your Easter feasts.
Closing our line-up of best spring wines is a brand-new crisp white wine from South Africa.
Crafted from a parcel of naturally lighter Swartland Chenin Blanc, there’s a nice energy to this fruit-laden Cape white, with ripe orchard fruit, a lick of lemon zest and a crisp, refreshing finish.
A lighter white wine style, it can pair with all manner of dishes including fresh salads, roast chicken or spicy Asian noodles.
If you like what you see, we’ve put together a six-bottle case from the above wines that covers a range of styles to suit the season. Shop our selected six below.
