The Wine

Country of origin:

Spain

Region:

Castilla y León

The vineyard is located in Villabuena del Puente, a small village 20km south from Toro. It is a blend of 95% Tinta de Toro (a local name for Tempranillo) with 5% of other white varieties divided over three plots in 'Paraje Los Pilones'. Winemaker Manuel Cantalapiedra likes to work in the most natural way possible, so wild yeasts ferment the grapes in neutral oak and no additional sulphur is used. Once the wine has been aged for 11 months, the liquid is bottled in its natural state without heavy filtration or fining. On the nose it is bright and light with bramble fruit and a touch of savoury spice. The palate has some weight to it whilst still remaining very approachable. This is a no-brainer for beef and other red-meat dishes, even those with spicy flavours.

The Winemaker

Manuel Cantalapiedra
Winemaker:

Manuel Cantalapiedra

Manuel, son of Issac and the founder of this cracking Rueda estate, shares a love for Verdejo with his father and continues to create seriously expressive and unique wines that are organic, made according to biodynamic principles, and are completely natural with no added sulphites.

"Medium bodied, fruity and intense on the nose, with rounded notes of blackberry, plum, leather and earth. Well balanced, fleshy, persistent, elegant and lively on the palate, with a long and pleasant finish." - Manuel Cantalapiedra, Winemaker.
