Made by the excellent, ambitious Borja Ripa (great name) at the equally excellent Finca Manzanos, this wine is a seductive tour-de-force. It sets out to present the lavish side of Rioja, using new French barrels and some American, to give a sumptuously ripe and complex wine but one that has a marked vitality too because it harnesses the finest fruit. The days of the grandiose oaked white may seem behind us now, but when you taste this you'll wonder why!
