Type: Tempranillo
Price: £8.99 each
On a trip to Spain we discovered the amazing work of Victor Porter. With this wine you'll find the well executed combination of Spain's ancient winemaking history and Valencia's thriving modern winemaking technology. The result? Structure and complexity you'd expect to find in a Rioja Gran Reserva plus the soft fruitiness of a wine far younger in style. We very soon became addicted to this little number. This is Gran Reserva for the price of Crianza - try this mellow blend with tapas.

Type: Carmenere
Price: £9.99 each
This Carmenère is crafted by head winemaker Roberto Carranca using fruit grown in the viticultural heaven that is the Maipo Valley. Carmenère has found a new home in Chile but was once celebrated as one of the six permitted grape varieties used in the famous blends of Bordeaux. It can be described, in terms of flavour, as a mix of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot - elements of Cabernets black fruit, tannic nature and deep colour are joined by the soft mouthfeel, jammy, red berry fruits found in Merlot.

Type: Grenache blend

'Grand Livre', literally 'The Big Book', is taken from a huge ledger found on the estate where the stock comes from in the ward of St Privat, in France's Languedoc. We adopted it as a name for this wonderful, warm Mediterranean blend because its figurative meaning is to take a wider view. This fitted the idea behind this wine, which is to draw from only sustainable, pesticide/herbicide free vineyards, so that the balance of nature is addressed - the bigger picture.

Type: Cinsault
Price: £8.99 each
Like Wellington, in some ways the Cinsaut variety is under-rated and forgotten - a shame as it is one of the mainstays of the entire Cape wine industry. It is rare to see the Sothern Rhône grape variety Cinsaut stepping out on his own, because he normally likes to travel in a blend with Syrah, Grenache and his other hearty pals. So this is a rare wine and a charming wine, on account of the character shown in the glass. Sample it for yourself today.
Type: Chardonnay blend
Price: £8.99 each
Crafted by Aussie, Linley Shultz, in the Cape's wine lands, this approachable cuvée works hard to charm at every turn. Packed full of lusty South African fruit that ranges from tight citrus high-notes to deeply ripe tropical bass. A cracking, modern symphony of flavour waiting to be discovered. It's a stunning combination of the purity and backbone of Chardonnay and the sleek and aromatic wiles of Viognier.

Type: Pinot Grigio blend
Price: £7.99 each
This is a Pinot Grigio that reaches the peaks that most Pinot Grigios cannot. It is from the rolling hills of Italy, in the northern cooler region, and shines not only because there's some great Pinot Grigio fruit, but also because it's got a good dollop of freshly brewed Garganega, added for extra weight and sensuality. This wine is lightly aromatic with ripe citrus and baked apple characters, and a soft, honeyed sweetness from the aforementioned bedfellow. And what a great couple they make.
Type: Chardonnay blend
Price: £7.99 each
This is a sterling effort from old Frank Meaker, who we have bought wines from for years. He is up at Wellington, in the Western Cape, in South Africa's wine lands. This is a special collaboration that was based on Frank's desire to release a really racy, Sauvignon-based young wine that was bracing in its intensity and invigorating in its nature. To do this, he needed to get it right, from the best vineyards, and release it very rapidly to get the most from its scintillating character.
