Ignore the label and you could be tasting Syrah from the legendary St Joseph appellation. Not too much of a surprise, since this is, in very large part, de-classified St Joseph. Exactly the same quality, but falls outside of the strict French quota system. Robert Parker enthuses, 'this excellent cooperative specializes in Saint Joseph...well-made wines available for modest prices'. Highly aromatic 100% syrah with subtle blackcurrant flavours and gentle spice. A characteristic hint of black pepper too.

Made from an exquisite parcel of grapes sourced from a single vineyard, it's Aussie Chardonnay how it should be. Fat, flavoursome, but not sickly. Loads of vanilla, butter and spice but not overly cloying, this would go well with buttered chicken or creamy pasta sauce.
