Why Buy Organic Wine?
Organic wines are becoming increasingly available these days but what makes them different from other wines? Read on to find out more.
- Better wines for the planet and for you
Unlike most mass-produced wines, organic wines are made without using any unnatural chemicals, such as herbicides and pesticides, which are added to vines to kill weeds and pests. Not only does this mean that organic wines are kinder to the soil but they are far kinder to you too, reducing the build up of non-natural toxins within your body. For instance, if you ever get a headache after drinking a glass of wine, the chances are that it’s due to the chemical residues in the wine. So next time, try an organic wine and see the difference.
- Dedicated winemakers
Producing organic wine involves a lot of hard work, dedication and risk for the winemaker. Inspections are needed daily to check for disease and pests, whilst weeds and other unwanted matter need to be continually removed - a back breaking task that is invariably undertaken by hand. In addition, winemakers have to rely on the introduction of natural predators and eco-friendly agents whose effectiveness depends on thorough nurturing, care and an awful lot of extra work. So one thing is for sure when you buy organic wine, you can be safe in the knowledge that you’ll be buying a handcrafted wine from a dedicated winemaker – a principle Virgin Wines supports wholeheartedly.
- A better tasting wine
Because of the sheer hard work and care that is required when it comes to growing organic vines, you can be sure that when you buy organic wine you’ll be getting a wine where the winemaker will have done all they physically can to bring you the best quality possible.
- Value for money
Even though organic vines often produce lower yields and require a lot more manual labour than most normal vines, you’ll probably find that organic wines are no more expensive (if not cheaper) than normal wines. Why? Because organic wines have faced a certain degree of criticism over the years, so winemakers producing organic wines are having to do all they possibly can to change this opinion.
As a company, we constantly strive to support small producers who grow their vines and make their wines in a way that protects the natural environment. We carry a range of formally certified organic wines, and we also source wines from producers who, although not certified organic, subscribe to the organic and bio-dynamic philosophy. We have grouped all of these wines into a single category which we describe as "Ethical". To choose from a range of ethical wines just tick the "Ethical" checkbox when you search for wine.
